What To Do with Legacy Data?
Today the term "legacy data" is used to identify the growing body of unstructured, uncategorized, and rarely accessed (or even accessible) electronic information that exists in every organization. While legacy data exists in many different media – databases, e-mail systems, etc. – organizations typically have the largest amount of legacy data in unstructured repositories. If left unchecked, continued growth of legacy data is nearly inevitable.

In-house counsel, corporate records managers and IT professionals struggle with managing this class of uncategorized data that seemingly lives everywhere. As legacy data grows, it has the potential – indeed the likelihood – of increasing risks and costs in the event of litigation or regulatory discovery, while also increasing IT costs (e.g. data storage).
